To support grade 9 students as they transition to high school, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is pleased to continue a summer program that is designed to equip students entering grade 10 with computer technology skills that will support them as they embark on their high school journey.
High School Tech Prep 10 is a free course that is delivered virtually through Google Classroom. Students can work independently at their own pace and schedule from wherever they are spending their summer. They will be able to start the program on June 26 and must complete all components by July 26.
Major learning topics include:
- Using Google Docs, Sheets, & Slides
- Appropriate use of AI tools such as ChatGPT
- Copyright & Plagiarism
- Online Safety
By enrolling in this program, grade 9 students will:
- Earn 6 high school CTS credits, which contribute partially to fulfilling high school diploma requirements.
- Receive a new Chromebook at no charge, which they will use for the duration of their high school studies if the program is completed in full. Chromebooks will be expected to be brought to school daily for use for educational activities. Students must have no outstanding fees (including transportation and other student fees).
- Have access to a teacher in case they have questions or need assistance in completing the coursework.
To enroll in this program, students must:
- Be a current FMCSD grade 9 student or be registered to join the division in September.
- Have regular access to WIFI throughout the summer.
